Starting my Climb Upwards

Dragontail Peak

"Let me tell of all the mighty deeds of my Lord God; I will remind everyone of your righteousness, yours alone. O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your faithfulness to all those to come." Psalm 71:16-17 My friends ~ I started a new journey Memorial Day Weekend, and now have a better view of what the path is ahead. On June 30th, right around 2:30 in the afternoon (while Matt was off stocking up for the holiday weekend), I recieved the phonecall to confirm I had been formally diagnosed with breast cancer. :*( This morning's follow-up biopsy should tell us how extensive this is. And yet, I am confident in the Lord's faithfulness in any situation, and take this journey with a strong hope inside. So grateful for my husband, amazing girls, my fantastic family and incredible friends; I could never do this alone! And especially grateful for my Dad, who showed me how to walk this journey with dignity and my dear friend & inspiration Tammy, a mighty forerunner who has held my hand through every stage of this so far and has helped me know what to expect - may I take this baton with as much grace as you did. I am likening my journey to scaling a mountain peak - hence, the title of this website. As far as cancers go, this one is very survivable. Plus, I have already beaten melanoma seven years ago, so I have worked through some of these emotions before. If that experience was compared to climbing Mount Pete in Enumclaw, and the worst possible cancer known to man were likened to summiting Mount Rainier, I'd place this one at the 'Dragontail Peak' level. This is scary - not a path I would ever choose, and yet I walk forward in confidence. On this climb to the summit of Dragontail, right about now, I'd be leaving the trailhead and on my way to the first Mountaineer Creek crossing; let's see what we find on the other side! ~ Love, Julie
